So although it's only 1:30, halfway through the work day, i've already had some exciting news. My firm just landed the Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens account! The show is going to be held in a 1000-person tent, complete with 360 degree CGI visuals and of course, lots of flying. Since Kensington is a Royal Garden, it was a huge feat for them to be able to have the show there. It's really interesting because Kensington Gardens is where JM Barrie met the Llewellyn Davies boys who inspired the entire play. Theres a statue of Peter Pan in the park and a little pond island is the supposed "Neverland" where they used to play. Theres also a statue of William III of Orange who looks interestingly like Captain Hook.
Yeah, I know its kinda weird that I know all of this random stuff. But i had to print out every article thats been written on the show so far and pick out quotes that we could get approved and use in our releases. One of my supervisors, the main person working on the account, also informed me that next week we will be going to a rehearsal to interview the characters!! The guy playing Captain Hook is the same guy who played Bruce Ismay in Titanic. He's the one with the creepy mustache who climbs in a lifeboat to save himself at the end. So yeah, i'll probably get to meet him which is kinda cool.
Anyway, here are some pictures from the show that kind of make it clear how cool its gonna be. Its only open for a month and a half so im either going to buy a cheap ticket or hopefully get one for free! woohoo! the CGI screen is actually 4 times larger than an IMAX screen, so its really innovative.
basically im really excited because i love theatre and im really into this sort of thing. so im glad ive finally got something that im really excited about. plus i actually get to go there and get out of the office!
in other news, we finally booked a hotel for amsterdam. Its called the Bellevue and it looks really nice. supposedly the oldest bar in the city dating back from 1606 is part of the hotel so that should be pretty sweet. its located pretty centrally and not in the redlight district so thats nice.. id rather just go visit there, rather than be staying there.
next friday at like 5 am we leave for Alsace, so were all really excited for that. not really sure how were getting to the airport yet, but we'll figure it out. We do have plans to visit Strasbourg, Germany. its supposedly awesome and just an hour train ride away. theres this beautiful cathedral there that my french teacher told me i had to see.
last night was the manchester united vs. barcelona champions league finals. obviously "football" is huge here, so basically everyone in the country was at a pub. so we went to a pub! it was pretty exciting but i really didnt get the draw.. its really funny because everyone who isnt a "mank-u-er", meaning everyone not from manchester, was rooting for barcelona. i think this was because manchester beat chelsea earlier in the season, and chelsea being in london.. well you get the drift. i like normal football better.
i didn't go to bed till quite late last night so i doubt im going to go out. im excited because i have a lot of good food to look forward to at home (dont worry, very healthy, like salads with feta and vinaigrette, etc).. but im really excited for the work week to be over. tomorrow were going to the Guardian and the BBC so i'll have to take some pictures there and post them. Then its off to dover and canterbury.. so i will probably post next on sunday.
alright well i hope everyone is doing well, i don't exactly know who reads this but if you want to email me at amlross@indiana.edu, i would love to hear from you! im assuming its all family so please email me :)
back to work for now though, cheers!
